Planning approval

Planning approval from ESTI is required to connect a wind turbine to the grid (equivalent to a building permit for electrical installations). There are two types of planning approval procedure: the standard procedure and the simplified procedure. The standard procedure is usually followed for connecting wind turbines to the grid and is coordinated with the land use planning or building permit procedure carried out by the canton.

As part of the planning approval process, ESTI consults with various federal agencies. The number of agencies consulted depends on the specific properties of the grid connection.

How to apply for planning approval

The planning approval application forms are available on the ESTI website: Application forms - Federal Inspectorate for Heavy Current Installations ESTI.
