Further information on wind energy:

The SFOE website provides general information and various reports on wind energy. The SwissEnergy website provides information on its wind energy activities.

The wind energy strategy published by ARE on 25 September 2020, including the explanatory report, sets out federal government interests that must be taken into account in the planning and approval of wind turbines, as well as the subsequent restrictions that apply to different areas due to these interests. The document also explains the restrictions that apply in different areas due to federal interests: wind turbines may not be erected in protected areas without permitted balancing of interests; in fundamental exclusion zones and reservation zones, they may be permitted under certain conditions. Most of these areas can be viewed on the federal geodata portal using the search term 'wind: federal interests').

The federal geodata portal contains a wealth of relevant information for the planning and approval of wind turbines, including wind speeds and directions at different altitudes, areas subject to restrictions under the wind energy strategy, and areas with wind potential. Below is a list of wind energy geodata.

The ARE website provides information on cantonal structure planning and links to the relevant cantonal websites, where you can view the relevant structure plans.
