The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) is responsible for the national accounting for and control of nuclear material, as well as for other supervisory activities and tasks arising from Switzerland's bilateral and multilateral commitments in the context of nuclear non-proliferation, export control of nuclear goods and the nuclear fuel cycle.
These tasks are performed by the SFOE’s Safeguards Section. The name of the section is derived from the English term Safeguards, which is used in the nuclear field for the supervisory measures in the context of the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
