The ordinance (appendix 3.6 EnV) went into force on 1 October 2002 and some minor amendments were made to it in 2004 and 2006 because of technical progress and as a consequence of the experience gained in the field. It was completely revised in 2011. The Federal Council brought the Ordinance on Energy Efficiency into force on 1 January 2018. Allocation to an efficiency category will now be done annually on the basis of technical developments. The values which change annually are regulated precisely in a DETEC ordinance.
Appendix 4.1 to the Ordinance on Energy Efficiency entitled “Details of the energy consumption and labelling of cars” and the supplementary information “Details on the energy label on new cars” apply to mass-produced new cars up to an overall weight of 3,500 kg with a maximum of nine seats including the driver.
