Electric drives and motors in combination with a mechanism for controlling motor speed as required are used for a broad variety of purposes, and account for a large proportion of Switzerland's total electricity consumption.
Efficiency requirements exist for electric motors with an output of 0.75 to 375 kilowatts, circulation pumps, water pumps and ventilators.
These requirements have been coordinated with those of the EU.
