Feed-in remuneration at cost
Feed-in remuneration at cost (KEV) was introduced in 2009 to promote electricity generation from renewable energies.
Promotion of photovoltaic systems
The federal government provides one-off payments and the floating market premium to promote the use of photovoltaic (PV) systems.
Non-recurrent remuneration for large-scale photovoltaic systems
Large-scale photovoltaic systems with an annual production of at least 10 GWh and a high winter share receive a subsidy of max. 60% of the investment costs, provided they are partially commissioned by the end of 2025 and fully commissioned by the end of 2030.
Promotion of biomass
From 2025 onwards, wood-fired power plants and biogas plants will be able to choose between an investment grant and the floating market premium.
Promotion of hydropower
From 2025, hydropower plants will be able to choose between an investment contribution and the sliding market premium.
Promotion of wind energy
From 2025 onwards, there will be a right of option between an investment contribution and the floating market premium for wind turbines.
Promotion of geothermal energy
Contributions for the prospecting and development phases of projects to use geothermal energy directly for heat generation are provided.
Financing of additional costs
The financing of additional costs mechanism is the predecessor of the remuneration of feed-in at cost model. On average, each year the involved production facilities receive remuneration of 15 cents per kilowatt hour (or in the case of facilities that were put into operation between 1992 and 1999, 16 cents per kilowatt hour).
Reference market prices
Reference market prices are used to determine the feed-in premium (KEV) for eligible electricity-generating installations.
