Charging demand scenarios
What charging infrastructure will we need for electric vehicles, and where should we put it? Future charging demand is a crucial piece of information when trying to answer these questions. The Charging Demand Scenarios facilitate planning by breaking down Switzerland’s future charging demand to the individual commune level and providing this information for every Swiss commune. The tool therefore goes a step further than the Understanding Swiss Charging Infrastructure in 2050 study on which it is based. This opens up new opportunities for communes, charging network operators, distribution network operators and the property sector to plan, invest and make decisions – all on a data-driven basis. The scenarios provide guidance on where charging points will be needed in the future, how powerful they need to be and how much energy they will require.
The key parameters are presented on maps, for example how many electric vehicles are expected in a particular commune and how many publicly accessible charging points will be required. The key year is 2035, as the study suggests that plug-in vehicles will account for more than half of all registered vehicles by then.
