RECIPE awarded funding from SWEET programme

Bern, 13.08.2024 - A decision has been made on the call for proposals “Critical Infrastructures, Climate Change, and Resilience of the Swiss Energy System”: The RECIPE consortium led by ETH Zurich will receive funding.

The four participating universities and three private sector partners of the RECIPE (Resilient Infrastructure for the Swiss Energy Transition) consortium will analyse the hazards posed to the Swiss energy infrastructure by the transition of the energy system and climate change, and the associated risks to the economy, society, vital resources, and the ecosystem. For the identified risks and vulnerabilities, the consortium will propose appropriate measures to increase resilience. Finally, RECIPE will provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders based on the project analyses and findings.

The call for proposals "Critical infrastructures, climate change and resilience of the Swiss energy system" was a joint activity of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) and the National Centre for Climate Services (NCCS). The consortium was selected in a two-stage process.

The consortium is composed of:
Host institution: ETH Zurich
Members: EPFL, Swisscom, Infras, FHNW, HSLU, Zoï
Total budget: CHF 10.5 million, incl. CHF 8 million financed by SWEET

SWEET (Swiss Energy research for the Energy Transition) funding programme

The SWEET programme issues rolling calls for proposals for consortium projects and will continue until 2032. Funding is provided only for consortium projects that address central research topics of the 2050 Energy Strategy and Switzerland's long-term climate strategy in a comprehensive manner. SWEET focuses on solution-oriented research and on demonstrations of the results achieved. The SFOE has the lead for the SWEET programme.

The National Centre for Climate Services NCCS

The NCCS is a network and coordination body made up of nine federal offices (including the SFOE) and research institutions. It brings together existing climate services, promotes dialogue between actors and works collaboratively to develop and communicate appropriately tailored information, procedures and solutions. A programme on cross-sectoral impacts of climate change ('NCCS-Impacts') aims to develop practical climate services for public administration, business and society by the end of 2025.
