Motor fuel from sewage gas

motor fuel

Sewage gas can be used as a fuel for gas-powered motor vehicles. For this purpose it has to be processed so that it attains the quality of natural gas, and can subsequently be fed into the gas network. Since it is a fuel that is derived from natural resources, it is not subject to fuel tax. Additional energy is required for the processing facilities.

Feeding sewage gas into the national gas network is only viable for large-scale sewage plants, and for those that produce more sewage gas than they can use for their own electricity and heat requirements. "SwissEnergy for infrastructure plants" advises operators of sewage treatment plants on how best to proceed and on concluding agreements with gas supply companies concerning the feed of sewage gas into their networks.
