Spatial data (geoinformation) form an important basis for decision-making. In accordance with the Federal Geoinformation Act, up-to-date geodata have to be placed at the disposal of a broad variety of users with the necessary level of quality. The Federal Council is responsible for defining the official geodata sets. A federal office is responsible for each official geodata set and for developing minimal geodata models for this purpose. A minimal geodata model is a depiction of the reality, structure and content of the geodata.
In addition to the official Swiss geodata, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy is now making other thematic geodata available. These datasets can be viewed using the federal government's map viewer or directly on this web site.
