For rapidly developing technologies such as heat pumps, cooling systems and cogeneration systems, international exchanges are both essential and valuable. International contacts are established as the result of direct collaboration on projects, as well as within trade associations and networks, and through participation at international conferences.
Switzerland is actively involved in the "Heat Pumping Technologies" Implementing Agreement of the International Energy Agency (IEA) and regularly participates in its events. It is also actively involved in a variety of workgroups (referred to as "Annexes"), and has assumed the leadership (as "operating agent") in 2 of them. It also acts as co-ordinator of the "International Heat Pump Conference" which is held every three years.
Switzerland is also a member of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), which organises an international conference every 4 years. Various permanent workgroups promote the development and use of cooling systems and heat pump technologies.
The European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) supports efforts on the part of manufacturers to bring their heat pumps onto the market. Here, Switzerland is represented by the Swiss Association for the Promotion of Heat Pumps (FWS).
