The content of the ongoing projects is based on the defined programme objectives and priorities for the period from 2008 to 2012, which are intended to bring about the following effects and improvements:
Increased efficiency of overall system
Increasing the level of efficiency reduces fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. Here it is essential to include the overall system and the various load statuses.
Reduction of pollutant emissions
The focus here is on emissions of nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and solids such as soot and particulate matter. Emission regulations are constantly being tightened up, and in order for engines to meet them, both internal and external measures are required.
Use of alternative fuels
The improvement of efficiency and reduction of pollutants place new requirements on the composition of fuels. The range of utilisable fuels is also being broadened, and combustion systems have to be optimised for biogenic fuels.
he various projects often encompass several of the priorities cited above.
