At the co-ordination and information levels, the Photovoltaics research programme encompasses the entire chain, from basic research through to the market, as well as all involved authorities and instruments. It monitors developments in basic research (e.g. National Fund, Federal Institutes of Technology) and assesses them from the point of view of their importance for photovoltaics. The programme also secures a smooth transition to, and close co-ordination with, market-related activities. With increasing proximity to the market, the various trade and industry associations are also incorporated into the process.

Thanks to the systematically implemented communication activities carried out for many years within the scope of the Photovoltaics research programme, a closely networked photovoltaics community has evolved, which organises a variety of activities, including periodical national conferences.
