In the area of solar thermochemistry, the PSI is carrying out basic research together with several institutions. At the national level, the PSI Laboratory for Solar Technology and the Chair for Renewable Energy Sources at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, are jointly researching high-temperature solar chemical processes. These two laboratories are actively involved in the recently established Energy and Mobility Competence Centre (CCEM-CH) and Hydropole – Swiss Hydrogen Association. There is also close cooperation with the following research laboratories:
|Zn hydrolysis||Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich – Particle Technology Laboratory (Prof. S. Pratsinis)|
|High-temperature materials||EMPA – High Performance Ceramics Laboratory (Dr. U. Vogt)|
In the area of high-temperature solar heat for industrial processes, the project financed by the programme concerns applied research, and the activities are being carried out in direct cooperation with the SPF Institute for Solar Technology at the College of Technology in Rapperswil (HSR), which is focusing on aspects of the installation associated with solar technology.
The project in the third area of research focusing on concentrated solar thermal power plants is based on a scientific collaboration with the Institute for Innovative Information Systems at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) and the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich (Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering, Institute for Energy Technology).
At the international level, cooperation is taking place with the following institutions:
|Australia||ANU – Australian National University, Canberra |
CSIRO – Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Newcastle, New South Wales
|Germany||DLR – Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt, Cologne and Stuttgart|
|France||CNRS – Centre National de la Rechèrche Scientifique, Odeillo|
|Israel||WIS – Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot|
|Japan||TIT – Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo|
CIEMAT – Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas, Madrid and Plataforma Solar de Almería (PSA)
|USA||NREL – National Renewable Energy Laboratories, Golden, Colorado |
SNL – Sandia National Laboratory, Albuquerque, New Mexico
UC – University of Colorado, Denver, Colorado
