As before, many electrical and electronic appliances for both household and commercial use still indicate considerable efficiency potential.

Here the relevant criteria are being researched in co-operation with the industry, while taking account of economic aspects. Household appliances in Switzerland consume around 7,200 GWh p.a., which is equivalent to approximately 13 percent of the country's overall electricity consumption. Refrigerators and freezers on their own account for roughly 2,000 GWh p.a.

Attention has to be paid to the level of electricity consumption not only during operation, but also in standby mode.
