The purpose of the Accumulators and Supercapacitors research programme is to promote research aimed at improving electrochemical and electrostatic energy storage. Its main focus is on accumulators or secondary batteries for electrochemical energy storage, and on supercapacitors or ultracapacitors (collectively referred to as supercaps) for electrostatic energy storage. The scope of the programme does not encompass rechargeable primary batteries.
