The Swiss Federal Pipelines Inspectorate (FPI) is responsible for supervising the planning, construction and operation of pipeline systems for the transport of liquid and gaseous combustibles and motor fuels. The principal objective of its activities is to secure and actively promote the protection of human beings and the environment.
All the FPI's activities are aimed at maintaining a high level of safety of pipeline systems in Switzerland.
Through its activities it also prepares the technical bases for political and legal bodies to take decisions without having to bow down to economic restraints.
Furthermore, the FPI sets out to promote the familiarity of pipeline operators with new pipeline technologies.
The FPI maintains national and international contacts with specialised bodies and authorities with the aim of keeping the technical status of official requirements at a comparable national and international level.
