Thanks to the energy label we can immediately identify the most energy-efficient household appliances. The label distinguishes seven energy-efficiency categories from green (highest efficiency) to red (lowest efficiency). It also contains additional valuable information: for example, it shows the exact energy consumption in kilowatt hours (kWh) as well as other appliance-specific information.
For smaller devices, of which there are usually a large number in households today, a general requirement applies for the reduction of electricity consumption in standby and off modes.
Since 1 January 2013 the maximum permissible consumption levels for standby and off modes are 1 and 0.5 watts respectively.
Small household devices are often supplied with electricity via external power supply units, and these, too, are subject to efficiency requirements.
